Kid Cudi brings Basquiat to the big screen

Kid Cudi is preparing a new tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat by taking on the role of the artist in Jean, a feature film he will also write and direct. The American musician and actor has shared the first images from early costume and make-up tests, featuring a look inspired by the New York artist. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2027.

The project has a personal significance for Cudi. He has spoken about Basquiat’s influence on his career and, after years of being encouraged to portray him without a film ever coming to fruition, decided to write the screenplay himself. His research has included books on Basquiat’s life and conversations with people who knew him. Through Jean, Cudi hopes to capture not only the artist himself but also the cultural energy of 1980s New York, where art, music and urban culture converged to reshape the creative landscape.

JW Anderson transforms its flagship into an art gallery

During Frieze Week, JW Anderson turns its flagship store on Pimlico Road in London into the setting for A Composition, an exhibition bringing together fashion, craftsmanship and contemporary art. At its centre is an installation by Welsh artist Cerith Wyn Evans, featuring 30 hand-blown glass wind chimes that respond to light, sound and visitors’ movements, transforming the experience of moving through the boutique.

The exhibition also features ceramic vessels by Akiko Hirai, paintings by Mary Stephenson and sculptures by Shawanda Corbett, selected by Jonathan Anderson to sit alongside the store’s garments and objects. Presented in collaboration with The Platinum Card from American Express, A Composition explores a different way of engaging with art, bringing the gallery experience into spaces that form part of everyday life. The exhibition closes today in London.

Miu Miu brings contemporary art to the Palais d’Iéna

Miu Miu joins the public programme of Art Basel Paris 2026 with Geste de Consolation, a multidisciplinary exhibition curated by French filmmaker Alice Diop at the Palais d’Iéna. Invited by Miuccia Prada, Diop brings together poetry, photography, sculpture, music and dance in an exploration of historical representations of identity, racial imagery and the stereotypes that have shaped the portrayal of women since the colonial era. The exhibition features works by contemporary artists, including Simone Leigh and Zanele Muholi.

The project builds on Diop’s relationship with the maison, which began with Fragments for Venus, her 2025 short film for the Miu Miu Women’s Tales series. The exhibition closes this Sunday, 25 October, with free admission, final guided readings and live performances by the musical collective Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty. Through this initiative, Miu Miu extends its cultural dialogue beyond fashion, creating space to question how images are constructed, who shapes…

A wide-angle photograph of the interior of the Palais d’Iéna in Paris, transformed into an intimate reading room and exhibition space with dim, warm lighting. The floor is covered with a geometric carpet featuring color blocks of muted purple, olive green, dark red, and beige. Scattered throughout the hall are elongated upholstered benches in vibrant purple, black, and deep red tones, each paired with a square wooden side table holding a small illuminated desk lamp that provides focal light. In the background, modern backlit metal bookshelves filled with books are visible, surrounded by the building's imposing fluted concrete columns and heavy dark velvet drapery

Louis Vuitton brings Artycapucines to the Grand Palais

From 23 to 25 October, Louis Vuitton presents a retrospective of Artycapucines at Art Basel Paris 2026, revisiting the project that invites contemporary artists to reinterpret the Capucines bag. At the Grand Palais, Louis Vuitton presents the bags alongside the original artworks that inspired their designs, including works by Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama.

The exhibition also offers an early look at a new collaboration dedicated to Keith Haring, whose connection with the maison dates back to a suitcase he customised in the 1980s. The full collection will launch globally on 1 January 2027. The project shows how a handbag can move beyond its everyday function to become a meeting point between art and design, bringing the work of renowned artists to new audiences.

Tim Walker brings the queer world to Fairyland: Love and Legends

Tim Walker’s new exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery opened on October 9 and brings together 250 portraits spanning more than five decades of queer history in the UK. In the gallery’s rooms, Lady Gaga, Chappell Roan, and Frank Ocean share the space with activists, workers, and figures from London’s underground scene. There is no timeline to follow: the images connect different eras and experiences, telling a collective story that goes far beyond its best-known names.

True to Walker’s theatrical imagination, the photographs unfold like scenes suspended between reality and fantasy, created in collaboration with set designer Shona Heath. The exhibition moves from the irreverence of the Rebel Dykes collective to drag culture and references to classic fairy tales, bringing together beauty and the stories of resistance woven throughout the images. Here, fantasy doesn’t disguise reality; it allows us to see it from a different perspective. The exhibition remains open…

Robert Wun brings his couture vision to New York City Ballet

Robert Wun takes his dramatic visual language from the runway to the stage with Shared Rain, a piece presented at the New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala 2026. For the collaboration, the London-based designer created midnight-blue bodysuits embellished with Swarovski crystals, alongside geometric headpieces shaped like six-pointed umbrellas, developed with support from Senz.

The production marks the first commission for both Wun and choreographer Jennifer Archibald at NYCB. Her work explores how the human body responds to the force of a storm, with climate change as its backdrop. Drawing on the umbrellas that featured prominently in one of Wun’s haute couture collections, the choreography transforms them into an extension of the dancers’ physical language.

Set to immersive music and met with a standing ovation at Lincoln Center, Shared Rain brings fashion, dance, and environmental reflection together on a single stage. The piece is part of the Contemporary Choreography I…

El elemento más destacado son los tocados oscuros y rígidos en forma de paraguas de seis puntas que cubren sus cabezas, adornados también con cristales centelleantes. Apparatus turns design into a fable

Five years after his last complete collection, Gabriel Hendifar returns with ACT V: AFSANEH, a new furniture and lighting collection inspired by his Persian roots. The name, meaning “fable” in Persian, is also a tribute to his mother.

The collection transforms everyday pieces into objects with a fantastical quality. Among them is Rahvi, a cast-brass light inspired by a mythical serpent and adorned with rings of semiprecious stones, alongside the lacquered Esfand lamps and Gol fiberglass pendants.

Originally presented in New York as the starting point for its international rollout toward London, ACT V: AFSANEH reaffirms Apparatus’ ability to turn lighting into sculptural pieces capable of transforming a space.

Yayoi Kusama: Infinity never ends

The artist who turned polka dots, mirrors, and her own visions into a universal language.

Yayoi Kusama, one of the most radical and influential figures in contemporary art, died at the age of 97 at a hospital in Tokyo on August 14. The news was publicly confirmed on August 27 in Japan by her representative studios and the Yayoi Kusama Museum.

For more than seven decades, Kusama transformed her inner world into an unmistakable body of work. Polka dots, infinite nets, pumpkins, and mirrored rooms became a visual signature that transcended museums to become one of the most recognizable languages in contemporary culture.

Now, the art world bids farewell to a creator who transformed her own visions into a universal language. Kusama did not paint infinity to represent it: she built spaces for us to step inside it. And although her brush has finally come to a stop, her dots…
