From Vetements to MAC: Britney Spears’ son is beginning to carve out his own creative identity.
For years, Jayden James Federline kept a profile largely out of the spotlight. Now, at 19, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s youngest son is beginning to establish his own place across fashion, beauty, and music.
His latest appearance comes courtesy of MAC Cosmetics, where he has become the face of the relaunch of MACZine. The campaign presents him through a rebellious, distinctly Gen Z lens, photographed by Sarah Pardini against a vivid blue backdrop and holding the brand’s iconic Fix+ setting spray.
And MAC introduced him with a question as provocative as it is direct: “Who the f* is Jayden James?” More than a cover story, the campaign serves as an official introduction to a name that has, until now, remained largely outside the pop culture spotlight.
The move comes just weeks after his debut at Paris Men’s Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Vetements. Wearing baggy jeans, a leather belt, and a white tank top, Jayden stepped onto the runway of one of contemporary fashion’s most disruptive houses.
But the moment had an even more personal dimension: he didn’t walk alone. Jayden shared the runway with his older brother, Sean Preston, 20, turning the brothers’ joint appearance into one of the most talked-about moments of their public debut.
After the show, Jayden admitted to feeling nervous, describing himself as “a little stiff” during his first walk. Rather than hiding it, he said he hopes to continue modeling so he can refine his technique and become more confident in front of the cameras.
His interest in fashion did not begin with Vetements, either. His fascination with modeling was sparked by watching content online featuring Brazilian supermodel Francisco Lachowski, whose career and presence in the fashion world inspired him to consider modeling himself. He had also attended Dior’s Cruise show in Los Angeles, an experience that further deepened his interest in the creative world surrounding the industry’s major fashion houses.
Yet behind the images and runways lies a much more personal side: music. Jayden is a classical pianist and composer who has spent years cultivating his musical talent away from the public eye. Creative figures such as Nicola Formichetti have also highlighted his artistic sensitivity and musical ear.
Music could, in fact, become his next major chapter. Jayden and Sean Preston have spent years experimenting together in the studio, privately writing and recording music. According to Billboard, Jayden is considering releasing his own music once he feels professionally ready.
This new creative chapter also comes alongside a renewed sense of family. After years marked by public distance, Jayden and Sean have rebuilt their relationship with Britney Spears, entering what appears to be a more stable and close chapter together.
Britney, for her part, has publicly expressed her pride in her sons’ achievements. Although she did not attend the Paris runway show in person, she sent flowers and messages of support, remaining close to the moment while keeping the focus firmly on her sons.
Now, somewhere between Vetements, MAC, the piano, and a potential music debut, Jayden Federline is beginning to build something that once seemed unlikely: a creative identity independent of the Spears name. And perhaps that is precisely the question MAC put on the table: Who is Jayden James? The answer is only beginning to unfold.
