Dolce & Gabbana: luxury as deliberate excess

Dolce & Gabbana doesn’t try to read the current mood of luxury; it contradicts it.

In Sicilian Holidays, the house doesn’t soften its language or adapt its archive to today’s logic of restraint. It does the opposite: it intensifies it. Lace, embellishment, and postcard-like prints don’t return as nostalgia but as part of an identity that doesn’t ask to be updated.

While other brands experiment with stripped-down versions of themselves, there is no translation into austerity here. The gesture is binary: all or nothing. And Dolce & Gabbana chooses all.

The result reads as a stance; in a market where luxury is being reshaped around discretion, the brand reaffirms its territory outside that logic, where excess remains a stable language.
