The Met opens “Costume Art” to the public

After setting the tone for this year’s Met Gala, the Metropolitan Museum of Art officially opens its spring 2026 Costume Institute exhibition, “Costume Art,” to the public today at The Met Fifth Avenue. The show brings together nearly 400 couture garments alongside artworks from the museum’s permanent collection, exploring the relationship between fashion, identity, movement, and the body across different periods of art history.

Beyond the exhibition itself, “Costume Art” also marks the debut of the museum’s new 12,000-square-foot Condé Nast Galleries, giving the Costume Institute a significantly larger and more permanent presence inside the Met. The exhibition will remain on view through January 10, 2027, reinforcing fashion’s growing institutional role within the contemporary museum landscape.
