Pusha T and Pharrell turn Grindin’ into coffee
More than two decades after turning “Grindin’” into a hip-hop anthem, Pusha T and Pharrell Williams are taking their shared history into the world of coffee.
Their new brand, Grindin’ Coffee, grew out of a routine they both know well: early mornings in the studio, where coffee fueled their long work sessions beginning in 2002. To turn that memory into a product, the artists teamed up with Italian coffee company Lavazza to create a premium coffee line.
Available in medium and dark roasts, both whole bean and ground, the project plays on the double meaning of grind: the act of grinding coffee, the relentless work behind the scenes, and the title of the song that helped define an era of hip-hop.
More than an unexpected collaboration, Grindin’ Coffee shows how hip-hop continues to expand its own cultural language: a song can become a memory, a memory can become a ritual, and eventually, a ritual can become a brand.
