Yayoi Kusama, one of the most radical and influential figures in contemporary art, died at the age of 97 at a hospital in Tokyo on August 14. The news was publicly confirmed on August 27 in Japan by her representative studios and the Yayoi Kusama Museum.
For more than seven decades, Kusama transformed her inner world into an unmistakable body of work. Polka dots, infinite nets, pumpkins, and mirrored rooms became a visual signature that transcended museums to become one of the most recognizable languages in contemporary culture.
